Store-bought garden trellising is almost always a complete rip-off.  And in our climate, wood trellises last about 6 months and metal ones perhaps one year.  But then they rot or rust away and there goes $30.  So my cucumber trellises better be CHEAP.

As in, free.

We started with some leftover green fencing (it’s been around for awhile), and some wood from our free pallets.  My sweetheart sanded them nicely so no one gets splitters.  He’s so thoughful.

And then I went searching for a way to fasten the thing to the Green Box Garden.  After searching through several other boxes of nicely organized screws and nails, I was left with only The Last Resort Fastener Box.

But it all turned out fine, though we were past dark getting the trellis attached.  It was a perfect after-dinner mini-project and I only had to ask my son once, “Please don’t swing that hammer near Daddy’s head while he’s using the drill.”

Hang on tight cukes! You guys are going places.

Oh, and we only broke one drill bit.  I’m such a brute with power tools.
