The Odd Tomato Family

Aloha, and pleased to meet you.  We are the Odd Tomato Ohana, of the Green Box Garden.

We are unusual, for sure, and our Girl Gardener has no idea why.

At first, when you see me, you think, “Ah! Stuck in the tomato cage, that’s what has caused your strange bubble-bottom.”  But no, that was not the case.  I was plucked from the vine, hanging free as a bird, far from any growth-restrictors.

Most other tomatoes that look like me have some kind of virus, eeeewww.  But not me, I came from the healthiest vine in the garden, and I’m the only one with this bizarre eyeball circle!

And we greenies, well, the lines on us resemble Frankenstein stitches, but since we are not GMO, we can’t be FrankenFoods!

We have given our Mommy Garden quite the mystery to solve, in figuring out who we are and why we look so interesting.

Or she might just wait till we are all red and put us in salad anyway.

Things I love: justice in all forms; flowers; locally grown food; cloth-diapering; breastfeeding; feminist theory; outdoor play; beaches; wine; Divine interventions; 4-H and coffee. Things I loathe: racism; homophobia; toxic crap; misogyny; litterbugs; the zombie apocalypse and pitbull-haters. My formal education is in sociology, gender studies, and public policy. I'm also a Lactation Educator; 4-H Youth Development coordinator a Certified Master Gardener and a graduate of a Permaculture Design Course. I've been blogging for several years on dozens of topics- everything from women's health to breed-specific legislation. But the thing I like to write about most is my gardening, food adventures and my kids. So there you have it. Please be kind. Thanks.

  2. Hello odd tomatoes. It’s nice to meet your family.

The green tomato looks so cool, like he/she got stitches. I will call you Frankentomato.

  3. Looks like some sort of bizarre radiation experiment gone horribly wrong… mybe they have superpowers now?

  4. Hope you are able to solve the mystery! Very strange indeed. I want to look at mine and see if I can find some. Did you eat any of them? 😉

  5. Frankenmato is my favorite 🙂
